LIVING BY DEFAULT
Are you in a rut? Do you think life is just passing by? Do you feel you are reacting and not responding to life? Do you feel like you are living someone else’s dream/life? E.g. Your parents want you to be a solicitor but, in your heart, you want to be a singer?
You want to be a sportsperson and your family wants you to pursue Engineering, so you are studying Engineering. You want to travel but your parents got you married. You yearn to work but your husband and in-laws want you to be a stay-at-home wife, so you are a stay-at-home wife.
Life just happens, and you are reacting to what someone else has ordained for you. You have no choice and are fulfilling a loved one’s dream.
Then my friend…you are living by default.
Spiritually you feel disconnected, emotionally you feel unhappy, frustrated, lost, physically you are present but not really present, mentally it is a struggle to follow the path and stick to others choices for you.
Living by design
Do you feel connected with yourself? Do you have a morning or evening routine to meditate or practice mindfulness?
Do your dreams eventuate? Do you enjoy your company and love solitude? Can you go on solo-trips?
Do you feel enough? Do you practice affirmations? Do you generally know what you want, your desires, needs and what you are doing? Do toxicity and toxic people have no place in your life?
Then welcome to living by design.
We all go through experiences in life where we are living by default, and then encounter an event which instigates us to re-evaluate our choices.
Choice of career, relationships, finances, physical health is the birth right of every individual. Yet people are lost and often only a painful event will make them question their purpose in life – the “Where am I heading?” kind of question. Let me tell you; we all are heading towards our grave anyway. So why not head there in a healthy, happy, enlightened and empowered way?
I am empowered when I am self-aware!
We all can lead a healthy, happy, enlightened and empowered life when we learn to increase our self-awareness.
Self-awareness is the foundation of living by design.
Science has proven that our brain will do whatever we program it to do. The brain will respond based on our belief systems. We need to consciously program our brain to embody positive, uplifting, benefiting, empowering beliefs. To live by design and to increase our self-awareness, we need to do the following :
Know your why. [Purpose]
In order to do anything, you need to know why you are doing it.
Career: Why do you want to be an Air force Pilot?
Health: Why do you want to lose/gain weight?
Finance: Why do you want to earn certain amount of money per year?
Relationships: Why do you want to marry?
Know what you want. [Objective]
Career: I want to be an Air force Pilot/I want to be an Entrepreneur because…
Health: I want to have 18% overall body fat percentage.
Finance: I want to earn $200,000 per year consistently.
Relationships: I want to be in a happy, harmonious and loving relationship with my family.
Know how you will get what you want. [Strategy]
Strategy is very important in life. For you to go from destination A to destination B you need to have a strategy. This is your plan of action. The steps you take, and they must be written down.
A desire needs to be followed with a practical and achievable action plan. Then work on that plan within a specified time-frame.
If you don’t achieve the goal in the specified time-frame then re-evaluate your strategy, change it, and re-implement.
E.g. To have 18% overall body fat percentage in 6 months you need to:
- Train at the Gym 5 times a week
- Follow a nutrition plan
- Get a fitness coach who can keep you accountable and educate you.
Go on, be a visionary, live consciously, live by design and be happy.
